I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and New Year's holiday! Mine was good but also very difficult; I had another round of struggling with my illness and it took more than I thought I had in me. I think I've clawed back to a better stage for now, but only time will tell.
Fighting illness is hard. Fighting a long-term, serious illness is harder. If I hadn't had certain people around me, encouraging me to keep fighting, I don't know that I would be able to write this today. So thank you.
I've felt well enough to host a few game streams, and even started fixing the plot for Shadowknives. Two weeks ago, I thought that was going to stay impossible.
The road to recovery is a long one, but I'm on it now instead of feeling trapped in the ditch. As I can, I hope to return to a more regular, happier posting regime, but this needed to be said now, so here it is.
Have a great week everyone.
Have you ever wanted to know more about a video game's story but don't have time or interest in actually playing it? Want to watch me attempt to play games?
Check out my YouTube channel! The featured game is Guild Wars 1. It's a beautiful role-playing game that was released in 2005 with countless hours and approximately 1 billion quests. And it's an MMO (massively multiplayer online) so I've even recruited a friend to play along with me sometimes. The first video is linked below. If you like it, please subscribe! I try to post 2 videos per week. My Xbox and Steam gamertag is TheShadowKnives so I used that for my YT channel as well. If anyone was curious, Akitis has always been my favorite character. :)
Please enjoy. And yes that is really me speaking. And yes, I am really 27.
(Fair warning, there is some adult language. Not tons but it is there.)
In one week, The Husband and I will be off on the biggest vacation I've ever imagined: two weeks in Japan and two in New Zealand. We've been planning it for a little over a year and I've known it was coming since I took my job five years ago today. Now that my countdown has hit the final week, I'm getting a little nervous that I will forget to do something important before we leave... but mostly I'm so excited to visit new places!
Several of you have asked about picture potential so I am planning to post pictures in my photo gallery here for your perusal. And also as a backup for me. :)
Other small news - I have a new Twitter handle now. Long story short, I can't log in with my old one because the password was rejected and the Twitter help desk hasn't responded to any of my inquiries. So now I'm @AHMShadowKnives. And since I can now log in again, I'll even (maybe) be more active than just the auto-push notifications that get sent from this site when I publish a new post!
The Husband and I have five cats. We love them dearly. But sometimes, mostly when they try to learn technology, they really annoy me.
Our youngest, a 6-month-old black fuzzball named Hades, hasn't grasped the concept that laptops don't leave room on my lap. He just pushes at it with his nose, and when that doesn't move it, he starts stepping on all the keys and meowing piteously. I've sent a few garbly emails that way.
More obnoxious, though, is Ducky. Somehow she managed to live almost two years without learning it's bad to chew on cords (all our other cats leave them well alone). She's gone through so many phone chargers I've lost track, my laptop power cord, the power cord for my external hard drive, the cord for the modem, and just a few days ago, the cord on my gaming headset. I put it down so I could put on slippers (which took maybe one minute) and when I got back she still had it in her mouth. At least this time I caught her so maybe the lesson will stick...
R.I.P. headphones. You served me well.
On the upside, I now know a lot about the current gaming headsets available, and have a new one on its way to our house. In case you're curious, I went with the Razer Kraken Chroma headset. My previous pair was also Razer and they're wicked comfy.
